Four hundred and forty-five years ago today, Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy. Without this amazingly curious mind, we would not have the Galilean moons of Jupiter, this plush little Galileo doll from the Unemployed Philosopers Guild, and the fabulous sing-a-long lyrics to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Most importantly though thanks to this day in history we have the International Year of Astronomy to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Galileo turning the first telescope on the heavens. This is cause for celebration indeed.
